Thank you for supporting Christ the King Parish School
Since 1964 our mission at Christ the King has been serving the children of our greater Portland, OR. community in Clackamas and Multnomah counties. Our school children come from a variety of socio-economic and faith backgrounds. We recognize that diversity is one of our greatest strengths. In 2020-2021 our beloved school proudly supported fully 71%, 147 of our 206 students, with $262,635 in tuition assistance. Many do not know that the tuition paid by our school families does not cover the annual operating expense to educate our students despite the careful stewardship of every tuition dollar we receive. Each year our school relies on grant writing, fundraising, and generous donations from benefactors like each of you to help bridge the gap.
In 1991, Joseph E Weston established the OCF Joseph E Weston Public Foundation to grant awards for charitable purposes in the State of Oregon. Amongst the objectives identified in the foundation's mission statement are:
1) "To assist in primary and secondary education of the youth of all races and denominations in our community, to allow students to achieve their goals in life so as to prepare them, in their adult years, to give of their talents in assisting the youth of the next generation. For it is in our education of youth that our society's future lies".
2) "To support the basic requirements of our society's needy children, through financial assistance to qualifying agencies that serve them. For it is through the nurturing of the children of today that we build the leaders of tomorrow".
Christ the King Parish School is blessed to have been identified by the Joseph E Weston Foundation as an organization it has chosen to very generously support over the years. In fiscal 2020-2021 the foundation agreed to match the contributions we raised in our Support a Student (tuition assistance) fundraising efforts up to $35,000 and in our Endowment for Education Fund efforts up to $45,000. Each year our school includes the Weston Foundation grant matches as part of our operating budget. We are very pleased to report that in fiscal 2020-2021 for the first time in several years we met both of our Weston grant match fundraising goals.
In our fiscal 2021-2022 Annual Appeal we will ask for support of our tuition assistance program, Support A Student, and also for assistance to fund new classroom furniture as what we have available for our students' learning is original to our opening in 1964, and in need of replacement. This year's auction will seek assistance for both our Endowment for Education and our technology funding as both are 1:1 grant matching opportunities. Endowment for Education from the Joseph E Weston Foundation and technology from the Maybelle Clark MacDonald Fund. We actively sought funding from MCM and May 27, 2021 they announced they will match our technology fundraising of all new and increased donations of $2,500, $1,000 and $500 from individuals, foundations and businesses that we receive on or before June 30, 2022 up to $45,000.
